The Wandering Witch’s home turf

‘I really have no idea,’ I said. ‘It feels like we’ve been walking for ages, but I also hate walking. Don’t you think it’s weird that the Witch lives in a FOREST, not a swamp?’

‘Yeah,’ Steve nodded. ‘But that might be part of the alternate dimension. Maybe Witches live in forests here, not swamps.’

‘Maybe they’re really nice and helpful here too! I mean, Glenda is super nice even though she is scary,’ I offered.

Steve snorted with laughter. ‘We’ll see.’

Suddenly Steve stopped. There was a big BOULDER in front of him and he climbed it. ‘This is it,’ he said. ‘This is the middle of the forest.’

‘Okay,’ I shrugged. I had no idea, so if Steve said so, I wasn’t going to argue.

Steve held his hand out to me and helped pull me onto the rock. ‘Okay, three times, Zombie, got it?’

I nodded.

Steve took a deep breath and then we chanted, ‘Wandering Witch. Wandering Witch. Wandering Witch.’

We paused.

Nothing happened.

‘Huh,’ Steve said slowly. ‘Maybe it takes some time for the call to reach her.’

‘Maybe the janitor lied and sent us on a wild PARROT chase,’ I suggested.

‘Wait, shhh. Did you hear that?’

I paused and listened.

There was a rustling sound in the trees. It sounded too close to be the wind. Something was making those trees rustle.

‘W-W-W-Wandering W-Witch? Is that you?’ I asked.

‘YES!’ An ugly Witch LEAPT out of the bushes and into the clearing in front of us.

‘AAAGGGHHHHH!!!’ Steve and I screamed at the same time.

‘HAHAHAHA,’ the Witch cackled. ‘They NEVER expect it!’
